Surf deals damage. In double battles it will hit all Pokémon on the field; in triple battles it will hit all adjacent Pokémon.

If the opponent is hidden underwater from using Dive, Surf will hit with double power.

When a Pokémon is holding Waterium Z and uses its Z-Power, Surf turns into Hydro Vortex and has base power 175.

Surf is used to cross water. While surfing, wild Pokémon may appear. It can only be used with the appropriate Gym Badge.

From Generation 3 onward it's possible to fish while surfing; previously one could only fish at the water's edge.
